The 10th annual Elgin Duck Pluck (http://www.elginducks.com) is right around the corner, Saturday, September 6, 2008 from Noon till 10:30 p.m. at Festival Park in downtown Elgin. This is the second year that the Duck Pluck has taken this form. Previously, the event was a duck race where thousands of ducks were let loose in the Fox River. The Elgin Duck Pluck now involves dumping thousands of plastic ducks in the new Festival Park fountain. Instead of waiting for the ducks to float to the finish line, local children now rush in and pluck individual ducks to determine the winners.

Duck Pluck / Duckapalooza Festival Details:

TIME: Noon-10:30 p.m.

DATE: September, 6, 2008

LOCATION: Festival Park, 132 South Grove Ave, Elgin, IL 60120

This year's festival will include a variety of free family and children's activities, including: a Guitar Hero Tournament, a pitching booth, drug prevention trailer, karate exhibition, cheerleading demonstration, body art / face painting, and a hole-in-one putting contest with a chance to win an iPod.

New this year will be a sale featuring autographed memorabilia donated to the Boys & Girls Club by a variety of artists, including: a guitar signed by Blues Traveler, an Arlo Guthrie signed Greatest Hits Album, and a Davy Jones signed "The Monkees" album. Additional items are listed on the event website.

Bands scheduled to perform include: Drop, Bagshot Row, The Lennys, Kashmir, Blue Truth, and Nick Moss and the Flip Tops. In addition there will be a Battle of The Bands featuring the three winners of local qualifying events in Elgin and the surrounding area.

The Elgin Duck Pluck is an annual fundraiser event to help support the Elgin Boys and Girls Club. Since 1998, the event has raised more than $500,000. Recently the Boys & Girls Club opened their new Education & Enrichment Center in Elgin featuring a full computer lab, teen center, and a gymnasium. Businesses and Individuals wishing to help support the effort are invited to adopt ducks online at http://www.elginducks.com, in person at the Boys and Girls Club 350 Dundee Ave., Elgin, IL 60121, or at one of the dozens of other locations around Elgin.

A single duck can be adopted for $5, $25 for a Quack Pack of 5 duck adoptions, plus a shirt and other prizes donated by sponsors. For $100, a person can adopt a Flock of Ducks and receive all the items in the Quack Pack, plus they are entered for a chance to nominate a child (under 18) to be an official Duck Plucker on the day of the event.

Prizes this year include a chance to win 1-million dollars, a 2008 Chevy Aveo from Biggers Chevrolet, a $1,000 shopping spree from Jewel-Osco, and other prizes from Elgin-area businesses.

More information about the festival is available online at: http://www.elginducks.com, including a full list of prizes, schedules, sponsors, activities, and bands that will be performing at the Duckapalooza Music Festival.
